I enjoyed this novel so much I have decided to read the others by Daphne du Maurier. Jamaica Inn is everything you'd expect from a gothic novel. The looming moor is a character in itself, threatening and untameable. The character of Joss Merlyn is nasty enough and the Inn foreboding enough that the novel needs no supernatural elements to fall back on to establish a sense of impending doom.
Mary Yellan is a decent heroine and the plot develops at a nice pace. I was always sorry to put the book down.

9/10!
