Here's the thing I've learned about Jay Kristoff books:
It doesn't matter if it takes half the book for you to get fully into the rhythm of it. It doesn't matter if you're not a huge fan of gratuitous sex scenes in books. It doesn't matter if the next book in the series is sitting right next to your or a year out on the release schedule.
He's gonna get your attention, pique your interest, draw you in, get you invested, and then feed you to the wolves at the last possible minute.
And you're gonna fucking love every second of it.
