This book was truly astounding! The melding of historical fiction and folktale fantasy building is the best I have ever read. If Jane Austen and JRR Tolkien found a fairy-child and raised it make droll social observations while inhabiting a magical kingdom, that child would probable have been Susanna Clarke. It’s a beast of a book but reads remarkably fast.
