The Little Town Where Time Stood Still by Bohumil Hrabal
adventurous
funny
3.0
Two stories-Cutting it Short (3.75 stars) and The Little Town Where Time Stood Still (3 stars)
Told in a stream of consciousness style, these slice-of-life stories had many moments of joyfulness and abandon. There were certainly a lot of antics and silliness, especially on the part of Uncle Pepin, and daring with Maryska that made for pretty entertaining and lively storytelling. In the latter story, we got many more serious parts when it came to discussions of the war, the ending with the death of Pepin and contemplations on the tiny village where nothing really changes. I have a bit of curiosity about what else Hrabal has written because he has some themes like finding the joy in the serious (or else living your life the way you want) and moving to the beat of your own drum that I find he has a unique take on. Maybe if I can get my hands on more.
