Despite me preferring the first instalment, I really appreciated how this duology ended on a bittersweet note.
Throughout the whole series the battle between good and evil is indeed the main focus and especially in the last part of this book the choices of the characters were always challenged by morals.
In contrast to “song of silver, flames like night”, I didn’t feel particularly attached to the characters or the story but I was able to enjoy the plot, even though in a detached way.
What I preferred the most was the Chinese mythology aspect and the peculiar world-building that I found quite different from any western fantasy.
I personally read it via audio and, despite really enjoying the narrator’s voice and ability to differentiate the characters, I felt a little confused because of all the names of the characters that, without knowing how were written or spelled, were hard to recognise.
