Against White Feminism: Notes on Disruption by Rafia Zakaria

4.5

The history of how colonization vilified and oppressed women of indigenous population was new to me and enraging to read about. Lots of great points made about how the (sometimes willful) ignorance of White feminists not only hinder processes but actively contribute to the (source of our many) problems - this white supremacist and capitalist society. It is so important for people who are (viewed as) white to understand and internalize that criticisms of White feminism and White supremacy are not about alienating or silencing them. We, as in, everyone who is marginalized, talking about injustices and inequalities, fighting for changes - want a better society for ALL of us and that does NOT exclude anyone. Definitely not based on people’s skin colours. (See: Ibram X. Kendi’s How to Be an Antiracist)
