The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie
3.0
— ❝everything's fine until you get angry, and then it's all about you being angry.❞
i'm so sad because i wanted to love this so much, but it fell a little short for me.
rating: 2.5 stars !
likes: i don't want to trash this book so let's start off with good things<3
☉i adored the writing for the most part and the second person narration! i thought it was wonderful and such a good concept to start off.
☉the book concept in itself was amazing and could have been executed so well.
☉i also loved the fact that it felt like a hamlet retelling that allowed "horatio" to have his moment in the light, and be seen as he deserved
☉tikaz was amazing and deserved a raise, omfg ! she breathed and it was immaculate, 10/10, would kiss multiple times.
☉i loved the fact that gods had to grow and come into their powers, that they weren't these age-old deities who never had to work for what they had.
dislikes: *sigh*
☉*deep breath* MAWAT CAN MEET ME TF OUTSIDE. i could not STAND HIM, and maybe she meant to write him like this??? but i was not convinced as to why eolo was loyal to him. like pls go on usajobs and submit your resumes to different companies i—
☉.
☉the pacing was too slow for me like it didn't need to be miles a minute but it was irritating that i had to read 71% of the book to get things moving.
☉the worldbuilding was lackluster for me, it felt vague and almost invisible with random things like "the sickness" popping up to make it relevant but it did not work, and that disappointed me.
☉i will go rounds with mawat for free, bruh
wish it was better but it could have been worse !
✩ — ❝how do you keep from crying?❞ [...] ❝i don't always,❞ you admitted. ❝Sometimes you can't.❞
