Hey guys have you considered that being a woman is a miserable experience because this book won’t hesitate to beat you over the head with that concept every five pages. I’m getting so tired of things pitched as feminist stories because they all do this and it’s fucking exhausting.

I read this despite not really liking YA because I thought there was quite a bit of potential plot wise - and some of it I think was interesting. It just didn’t push far enough. We spend more time away from the other girls on grace year and focused on a love story which feels weirdly insulting. Is the implication that teenage girls (and the emotionally stunted adults) won’t read something unless there’s a boy in it? That’s fucked.

I also really enjoyed the concept of the flower language but the timing was sort of comedic. Do people just carry around a shit ton of fresh flowers like a sound board? How did someone just happen to have a flower meaning seething resentment on what’s supposed to be a happy day?
