The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
5.0
"The world was simpler when all that existed was what you could perceive in front of you."
Trigger warnings:
The Poppy War by K.F. Kuang is a masterpiece. If you are interested in reading a grimdark fantasy story, pick this up immediately!
What I loved:
+ The character development!
+ The way anger and war were explored!
+ The world-building!
+ The boarding school setting (although this is just the first half of the book)!
+ The intrigue!
+ The competitiveness and the exploration of the pressure of school!
+ The Lore class (duh)!
What I Am Cautiously Critiquing:
+ The pacing. I felt like the middle chunk of the book got a bit clunky, but I wouldn't let this deter you from picking up this fantastic novel!
"Children ceased to be children when you put a sword in their hands."
