A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers

4.0

My favorite moment is when Mosscap decides to have his body fixed by molding the original broken piece instead of using an organic material because he doesn't want to differentiate himself from other robots. Usually, he says, he and other robots would keep going about without fixing themselves up until they "die" (it's still unclear how death comes upon them) after which any remaining usable body parts would be harvested to build a new robot. I didn't want Mosscap to keep going with his broken piece, so when he kept demurring on getting himself fixed up, I was apprehensive that the story was going to end here. But he came up with a practical solution.
