A Milky Way Home is a cozy, warm, low heat ace romance that left me with a big smile on my face. Yen-Chen and Florence have an awkward beginning, but overcome that quickly to become friends. Their shared Taiwanese heritage (Florence is second generation Taiwanese-American and Yen-Chen was born in Taiwan) helps to grow their connection, especially using food.

Food is central to this story. The descriptions are mouth watering, the detail in describing the cooking is great, and the group of characters in the story repeatedly come together at the table. It is how Yen-Chen and Florence are able to connect and take the first very vulnerable steps towards each other.

The love story is just lovely. So, so lovely. Each of the leads are very respectful and gentle with the other in recognition of their identifying as demisexual (and demiromantic for Florence). Yen-Chen is also transmasc and genderqueer while Florence is bi. However, there isn’t a lot of emphasis on strict labels. The entire character group is diverse and open in themselves. It is so lovely to read.

When I finished A Milky Way Home, I felt like I had just emerged from a giant, enveloping, warm hug that also made me hungry. I keep saying lovely but that is what this book and these characters are. Simply lovely.
