The best essay collection I’ve ever read, by far. This collection is a testament to friendship, love, and life’s happenstances. “There are No Children Here” was a completely unique and multifaceted look at being childless by choice. I related to it very deeply. And of course, “These Precious Days” could thaw the most frozen of hearts. Patchett’s voice is incredibly clear throughout the collection. She does something I’ve never seen another writer, commentator, or really anyone do successfully: she acknowledges her privilege and it’s impact on her life (and how the lack of impacts others) without apologizing for it. Her self awareness is remarkable. Her words are going to stay with me for a very long time. The audio book is excellent.
