In returning to this series, I was reminded of everything I like about these characters and this setting...and everything that I'm just kind of a meh on as it pertains to the story. I really love spending time with Emily and I'm quite of the way romance is interpreted through her neurodivergent-coded eyes.

The fairy folk stuff makes for a fun setting...but this book also kind of repeats what the first one does in that it positions Emily in a small town that has a very particular relationship with its folk and then culminates in a journey into Fairy for something of a rescue mission.

For me, the plotting of both this and the first book were just a vehicle for spending time with Emily and her clever mind, which I enjoy, but which I kind of wish was a little less rote.
