Welcome to Dead House by R.L. Stine

dark mysterious tense medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Reading this as an adult has none of the impact that it did as a child. I am excited to read more Goosebumps however, welcome to dead house was very average.

Stine captures the essence of the young character through his writing from her perspective. Although not in a believable way, the way it is written proclaims that the book was written by a full grown adult.

But it is a beginner friendly horror story that will definitely terrify a young audience!
