The language just wasn't working for me. While the voice was unique, a lot of this felt more "tell" than "show" and I struggled to really invest myself in the story. The beginning of this also did not paint a great picture of who Malik as a character would be, in my opinion.
Additionally.... I'm a type 1 diabetic, and it was obvious the author did not fully research diabetes or how to handle diabetic emergencies. This was enough to fully throw me out of the story.
I will not be trying this one again.
