American Monsters by Adam Jortner
3.0
Overall, it's a really good set of essays.
Like most academics, there was a little bit of moral grandstanding, and some statements made that I feel have very thin evidence. Again, as with many academics, we had to drum the look for racism, sexism, and the Victim Olympics drum. I feel like I point this trope out too often, but then it appears too often...
Let the past be the past, please, worry about things going forward. It comes across to me as so condescending and snooty, like us pleb readers can't identify these things for ourselves, we need them highlighted, underlined, and clearly explained in order to understand.. *sigh*
The bit on horror movies was excellent, however, and I did enjoy the audio-read generally.
