This amazing biography series on notable Canadians returns with the life of the amazing Mary Ann Shadd. Mary Ann Shadd spent her life advocating for the freedom, education, and voting rights of Black men and women. From her childhood witnessing her parents as part of the Underground Railway to publishing and printing a newspaper by Black people for Black people, Mary Ann’s story is one of determination, courage, and inspiration. I found it particularly inspiring to read about how she faced and rose above all those who were against her, including white men and women, and also Black men.
