The Perfect Date by Evelyn Lozada, Holly Lorincz

Did not finish book.

Content warning: there is a scene pretty early on (not sure exactly what chapter) that describes the main character walking in on two people having sex, and it goes into pretty graphic detail.

I decided to borrow this because it came up on Libby as an available romcom audiobook, and I was looking for something light and fluffy to listen to on the weekend. I love a good trope-y fake relationship story, so the synopsis reeled me in. Unfortunately, I was only able to get a quarter of the way through. For something that was published in 2019 and is supposed to be contemporary romance, so much of the characters' actions and thoughts just seemed really outdated and cringey. The Duke is such a jerk and the way he views Angel (and how he talks to her) is really gross to read about, and Angel's treatment/opinions of her peers and people who are supposed to be her friends is also pretty awful. I didn't want to get any more frustrated with the characters, so I cut my losses and called it quits.
Pretty sure I won't be returning to this to try again.
Stopped: end of chapter 7
