The House That Walked Between Worlds by Jenny Schwartz
4.0
“I hate giving advice.” “Because no one listens?” “Because advice tries to guide you away from known mistakes, but that leaves you with new mistakes to trip over.”
A reckless act of compassion costs Dr. Kira Aist her family and her future on Earth. To escape her enemies, she calls on her heritage as a descendant of Baba Yaga and walks between worlds. As Kira roams the paths of Reality, strangers are drawn to her House. Some seek refuge, some seek power, and one just wants kitty treats. With the fate of multiple worlds hanging in the balance, Kira must discover what it means to be a sorcerer and the keeper of a House.
The more beguiling a conspiracy theory was, the more important it was to analyze what problem in my life it provided a placebo for.
While the story immediately opens upon a grief-stricken and exhausted witch, it quickly morphs into a magic all-providing haven and what that means for Kira and the ragtag band of misfits she seems to attract. Very found family vibes.
Recommended to anyone who loves sentient house fantasies or wants a cozy read.
