I would like to start this review by saying that this book should have 100% been up my alley and I should have loved it and I should be shouting from the rooftops about it.
Ok, now that we've gotten that out there.
It's not that I disliked the book, it's more so that I didn't REALLY like the book (this coming from a strong enneagram 9 that feels as though giving a book 3 stars is somehow saying it's a dumpster fire when that is absolutely not the case, it just means "liked" instead of "really liked" or "loved").
If the entire book had been from Margot's POV and her story had been told chronologically, I think it would have gone better for me, personally - but I also appreciate what the author was trying to do and truly think this is more a Me problem than a Book problem. (Also, did Lenni seem a little younger than 17 to anybody else?)
I found that it felt that I was kind of flitting in and out of the plot, never really being given enough time to land anywhere and really take stock of the emotional parts (which should have walloped me, and didn't). I found myself having to force myself to pick up the book and read it, which just goes to show the two of us were not getting along the way we should have.
However, all of that being said; there's hardly a single person that I talked to about this book that didn't love it, so definitely don't let my review alone dissuade you - but if you read it and felt similarly, just know you're not alone.
(^run-on sentence much?) (tried to change it but every time I removed a part of the punctuation it profoundly changed both the sound of the sentence and the sentiment of what I wanted it to sound like and it was just all wrong so here we are)
