All Girls by Emily Layden
4.0
✧ — 4 stars.
❝Sometimes it feels like a trap, doesn't it?❞
Ms. Layden, hand in marriage, please. This novel was brilliant and really resonated with me as a private school girl. The author did a brilliant job of narrating the multiple perspectives of the girls and talking about something so serious and rampant in this community.
Starting with the brilliant:
* I really liked Bryce. This is probably because she was implied to have a difficult relationship with her mother and I am a gold star member of the club lmfao so retweet. I think her characterization was gorgeous and so well-written.
* The author had 3D characters which is a huge thing because a lot of characters in novels are not and therefore take away my ability to be like YES when I read about them.
* The private school atmosphere was writing perfectly. I felt like I was back in my own again and had to put the book down to wipe my brain of the memories. Love that for me.
Ending with the not so brilliant, but still good:
* The pacing was a bit slow sometimes but not too slow that you were like "pack it up, rich hoes".
* F**k Emma lmao
* Olivia deserved better
* Poor Macy
All Girls is a lovely novel that encompasses the female experience at a private school and the sinking darkness you sometimes get trapped in because of it. Brilliant, lovely, perfect. Well done, Emily.
❝[...] a reflection of herself, one last chance to get it right.❞
