A Mind That Found Itself by Clifford Whittingham Beers
5.0
My first read of 2021 is a little different than genres I usually read, but my goodness I am glad I did. I don't suffer from mental illness, but this book made me cry. What Beers went through in terms of treatment is horrific, and I am so glad we are continuing to evolve in our treatment of mental disorders. We still have a long way to do, but thanks to people like Beers, we are more along slowly and steadily. What a provoking book...I think everyone should read it, regardless of background, favorite genres, etc. We could all do from listening to the voices of those - regardless of time - who suffer from things we may not entirely understand, but can harbor sympathy for anyone.
