This is a fantastic book, mixing historical fact with fiction while also adding a good dollop of fantasy to create a riveting page-turner.
The story follows the life of Parmenion, from his tormented boyhood in Sparta, through his time in Thebes, to him being Phillip of Macedon's General leading up to the birth of Alexander the Great.
As with all of Gemmell's books, the characterisation, action and emotional impact are all spot on making this another excellent book from the master of heroic fantasy.
