Harley Laroux is my favorite author now.
Lovecraftian themes? Level 5 spice? Monsters? Fuck yes
The way they write spice is my favorite. It's raw and rough and while batshit it's also very realistic. The check-ins feel realistic and NOT awkward. But beyond that, the way they write the feelings of a submissive and brat behavior and punishment are fantastic.
The only thing about this book I didn't like was the FMC. There were so many times I sat up and yelled "don't fucking touch that!" In my room I lost count. By the end I understood why but that didn't make her less frustrating. I understood the MMCs frustration. I want to be clear that the FMC isn't poorly written, I believe she's written to be frustrating, especially as we get to the end.
(edit after second book, specifically about how Rae was written, no story spoilers: I was write about rae )
