Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
I had no idea what to expect knowing this book was about a heist, but IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD WHAT THE HELLLLLLL I LOVE IT!!!!!
Jumping immediately from the Grisha Trilogy into Six of Crows was a tonal whiplash: the Grisha Trilogy was the hero’s journey/the chosen one, where as Six of Crows is Ocean’s Eleven but SO much better (also more eyeball ripping and knives to the groin). The writing was superb, something you’d expect from Bardugo by now, and it was actually a lot of fun to have this come from multiple viewpoints rather than from one singular viewpoint, which obviously attests to the tonal/thematic changes.
ALSO PSA NINA AND MATTHIAS INVENTED ROMANCE. NO, I WILL NOT TAKE CRITICISMS. I SAID WHAT I SAID!!!!!! That line Matthias says in the late chapters??? WOW. WOW!!!!!!! IM DECEASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love ensemble casts when they are a manageable size, and I think Six of Crows does a fantastic job fleshing out each character and giving them all moments with each other and for themselves. I love this found family
