An interesting study of developing self-awareness & family relationships in post-WWII England. The young narrator, Lucy, observes the lives of everyone around her while trying to figure out who she is and how she fits in - or, if she wants to.
Some beautiful, savory descriptions of life in the 1940s around + in London as well as deliciously detailed characterizations of people from clearly defined social classes.
The ending wrapped up too abruptly to be fully satisfying but that could have been yet another honest point the author wanted to make.
