This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab
5.0
2023 reread
A solid 5 stars once again! Even better this time since I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it more this time around.
Not sure what to say that I haven't already said before. The writing, the story, the plot, the characters.. all perfection.
__________
This is one of those books that instantly pulls you in. Schwab will keep you on your toes and wanting more. At first you won’t get the whole picture, you’ll be just building up the world in your mind, geting to know the characters better. Then bit by bit she’ll throw little hints and details at you along the way, slowly building up the bigger picture, in a way that’s not boring or dull, but intriguing.
So… a book about monsters, now isn’t that a dream come true? It wasn’t at all what I had in my mind. It was even better actually.
But how can a story about monsters and violence and war be so beautiful and passionate? Monsters that are still holding on to their shreds of humanity, peace, and their music.. While some humans, they’re the real monsters, the one threatening to destroy everything that is good.
It’s realistic, it’s painful, the world isn’t perfect, the characters aren’t perfect. But they’re trying, they’re struggling not to fall through darkness and lose themselves.

“Monsters, monsters, big and small
They’re gonna come and eat you all”
