Echoes of Scotland Street by Samantha Young

emotional slow-paced

1.0

I struggled to get through this one. I really enjoyed this series up till this book and I liked Cole a lot in previous books but man I was not a fan of these mcs this time around and it really surprised me in the worst way. Cole seemed so desperate for "the one" and it felt like he just made Shannon (round peg) fit into that square hole. Quite frankly Shannon was kinda unbearable to me. There were times when I was sympathetic to her past and what she went through but man did she make it hard a lot of other times to like her. She was so quick to jump to the worst conclusion and treat people poorly and blame all of her problems on everyone else. I understand she had trauma and dated some terrible men but she really took almost no accountability for her own feelings and actions and then it felt like it took Cole (another man) to "fix her". I would have liked Shannon to fix herself and do a lot more reflection inward. Both Cole and Shannon were cringey af to me at times and I did not connect with their romance at all. I thought about quitting this story before I finished more than once which is something I very rarely do. I'm relieved it's over and it made me question if I even read the next book which sucks because I did like the previous books quite a bit. I'll definitely give it some time before I consider jumping back in.
