The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet by Jeff Goodell

challenging dark informative reflective sad tense medium-paced

4.0

This book is a scientifically based book about global warming and the extreme ways in which our planet is changing. Interspersed with scientific discussions about how water gets warmer as temperatures rise due to a variety of factors are stories of people whose lives are impacted- or ended- by extreme heat.  It is about why spring is coming a few weeks earlier and fall is coming a few weeks later and the impact that will have on everything from our food supply to disease outbreaks to individuals working in the fields or living without a way to escape the rising temperatures . It is about what will happen to our lives and our communities when typical summer days in Chicago or Boston go from 90 degrees to 110 degrees or when summer days in Phoenix are routinely 123 degrees. The author states the solution is to stop burning fossil fuels - a solution we know is necessary but u willing to implement. It is a scary and so wrong book.
