I stumbled upon this book and went into it blind. I had no idea what to expect, which I do not recommend by the way (read the TW), but I quickly became fully invested. The writing alone is stunning. I don’t think anything about this book can be considered black and white, considering the topic. And the author treats Jade with such care out throughout the novel. You can’t help by empathize and also want to defend Jade the entire time and any author that can evoke such feeling from their readers is going to write a stunning book.

Rape is obviously a huge topic to try to write about in itself, but we also see Jade deal with micro aggressions at work and in her relationships and she has to juggle her parents and the cultural divide there. But Jade has amazing friends she con turn too and the growth that she goes through makes this book just a stunning read.

I always recommend audiobooks when there’s a cultural element and that’s the same here. Hearing some of the foods that Jade’s parents cooked pronounced the correct way is a bonus element that always makes a book feel more real to me. I could keep going on. This is a tough book to read but it’s such an important book to read.
