One Part Woman by Perumal Murugan

This was our book-club's September BOTM.
Do I love it? I've no answer because it's one of those books where you experience emotions as if they're happening in your own life. And I have a weird relationship with the characters in the book. I don't love them. I don't hate them.
It's a great book but I don't love it because it's shown me the bitter truth and broke my heart.
.
Its about a childless couple who are prone to society's and family's judgements. People always have a say in their marriage and there isn't a single temple or ritual they haven't visited or done in order to conceive.
Kali and Ponna are a beautiful couple. They love each other immensely. They were absolutely happy with each other but the ultimate goal of every marriage is bearing children is what everyone thinks and it breaks them.

My friends say that this book is beautiful in tamil since it's the language in which it's written originally. I, having zero knowledge regarding tamil (reading) have no luck. So I'm settling for the English translation for now. My friends said that something's lost in translation. I felt discontinuity in the story at times. Like the author was trying to say something but I couldn't grasp the whole meaning of it. So, if you know tamil I suggest you read it in tamil.
