Whirl (Ondine Quartet Book 1) by Emma Raveling

5.0

Whirl, book one in the Ondine Quartet, is a great read. My attention was completely captivated in Kendra's world of being a Ondine, a water elemental. While the premise of what Kendra is is new and different, I couldn't help feeling like I was in a way reading all of Amanda Hocking's Trylle trilogy all wrapped up nice and tight in one book. Being a big fan of Hocking's work, I found this interesting because of how much I truly enjoyed reading Whirl. I loved how independent, fierce, outspoken, and loyal Kendra is. She has confidence and not one trace of that poor me, someone save a helpless girl attitude.

After living with only her rogue mother (her father died when she was very young)and moving from town to town and school to school, Kendra is use to handling her problems herself so it was nice to see her let go enough to have some close friends, whether she liked it or not. She also has a lot on her shoulders as the girl that will save their elemental world from the dark Shadow, who wants her for her powers to make the Aquidae's stronger.

Whirl is exceptionally written with a perfect pace from start to finish. I'm excited for the author to finish book two, Billow!Whirl has definitly been an addition to my re-read list. Although I received the e-version from the author in exchange for my review I would love to have the paperback copy for my personal library. It is seriously that good and Emma Raveling has a great beginning to this four books series!

*side note: there is a glossary of terms at the end of the book with more in depth descriptions of what the characters are*
