"Welcome, by the way, to my offices."
He waved a vague hand around the tatty surroundings.
"The light works," he said, indicating the window, "the gravity works," he said, dropping a pencil on the floor. "Anything else we have to take our chances with."

turns out this book is much easier to get when you're not reading it at 3 AM, and when you remember how things actually happened, as for it is already the second time you read it, not the first one. who knew. some might say that it means this book should always be read for a second time, instead of trying to read it the first time, and then you won't be that confused. some others might answer, that said confusion is one of the best parts of this book.
and they'd be right.
as i said, this is the second time i read this book, and although i already knew why things are like that, it didn't take away any of the enjoyment, cause it was really cool to see that hey, it actually makes perfect sense!
.....well, maybe not, but you can see the strange logic behind everything, and – drumroll – that everything is actually connected. ha.
also, thanks to my shitty memory i managed to forget the vast majority of jokes from this book, so the experience of reading it was really – well, an experience.
in short, maybe this book is not perfect, but it brings me so much joy i just have to leave the 5-star rating i gave it two years ago. (two years already???? damn)

Was it chaotic as hell? yes.
Was it sometimes too weird to fully understand? maybe.
Did I care? no, because it is written in such a good and funny way (or maybe Way hehe), that when you're reading this then after some time you just accept everything that's happening, while being truly surprised by a lot of things (and by a lot I mean A LOT, and the Electric Monk and his horse aren't even the weirdest). And characters don't really know what's happening too, so you won't be alone in this. Also the kind of humor here is exactly the kind of humor that I love the most.
Besides that, the story and its characters (especially Dirk, yes he is very irritating but he's awesome alright) are really amazing.
I remember that I finished reading this at almost 5 AM and I didn't regret any second of it.
