City Wolf by S.P. Wayne

5.0

This continues a few months after the first book ends and Ax is going back and forth about visiting Leander in Los Angeles. Because he's a werewolf, being in a huge city far from a forest is not his idea of a comfortable time but his love for Leander is so all-consuming that he can't think of much else besides seeing him again. Their phone calls and inner longing are so charming; I love these characters so much.
This is a good shift from the first book - which takes place complete within the confines of Ax's territory - while not changing the vibe or backtracking on their relationship. It is interesting what Wayne does with werewolf lore and lifestyle needs when confined in a huge city. Ax doesn't exactly enjoy it but he's growing as a character so much, with no small help from Leander and these new characters, and it's great to read along with that.
Then Dana shows up and it all hits the fan and the angst and heartbreak is at the forefront but compelling. The last couple of chapters will make you want to throw the book while simultaneously never wanting to put it down or for it to end.
