5 stars for Cress! A new favorite ♡
∘₊✧──SUMMARY────✧₊∘
Cress is a Lunar girl who has been held captive on a satellite orbiting Earth for several years. She has to do the Lunar Queen Levana’s bidding, but instead, she defies Levana and Levana’s head thaumaturge Sybil Mira, and gets Cinder, Scarlet, Thorne, and Wolf to come to save her. However, things don’t really work out and Thorne and Cress are stuck on the satellite which is now falling to Earth, Scarlet is kidnapped by Sybil, and a Lunar guard, Jacin, is now aboard the Rampion with Cinder and Wolf, who is wounded.
Cinder and Jacin take Wolf to Dr. Erland in Africa, while Cress and a blinded Thorne crash into Earth, cross the Sahara, get double-crossed by some local people, and still manage to make their way back to Cinder, all while Scarlet is being tortured and abused and questioned on Luna.
Cinder comes up with a plan to kidnap Prince Kai on the day he is supposed to marry Levana. Erland, Thorne, Cress, Wolf, Cinder, and Iko all infiltrate the palace and play their parts for the plan to work. They succeed in kidnapping Kai but Iko is hurt and Cinder uses her Lunar powers to torture Thaumaturge Sybil, and later worries that she is becoming like Levana.
Scarlet is being held captive on Luna by Princess Winter, Levana’s stepdaughter, and Scarlet doesn’t trust her. But Winter gives her some candies that take away all her pain. Kai and Cinder argue, but Cinder tells him that she is Princess Selene and that she is planning to go to Luna and start a revolution.
∘₊✧──CHARACTERS────✧₊∘
I really am becoming so attached to the Rampion crew.
Starting with Cress, I really love her!! She was just so nice, and I really love how she supported Thorne since he went blind. I tend to gravitate toward the hopeless romantic characters, so I really enjoyed Cress and her chapters were definitely my favorite. She's also so intelligent, which I really appreciate. Cress really grew into herself, having a lot more confidence at the end of the book and even defending herself in front of her former guardian, Sibyl Mira. I feel so bad that she never got to know Sage Darnel, also known as Dmitri Erland, who is her father, very well. He died right after telling her he is her dad. When Thorne held her as she cried my heart broke.
I loved Thorne. I had my doubts about him in Scarlet, but he had so much development and I really like him with Cress. Thorne is so funny, and I adore his banter with Cinder. I can't wait to see the relationship between Thorne and Cress grow in Winter!!
Cinder and Kai were so cute in this book! I really love Cinder's development throughout the series so far, she really grows into her role and character, which I really appreciate. Cinder is just a brave fmc, with real emotions, and I gotta love her because of it. Kai is so hopelessly in love with Cinder. He was trying so hard to forget her, but he just couldn't. They are such a perfect match.
I feel so bad for Wolf and Scarlet. Wolf went INSANE when Sibyl took Scarlet. Poor Wolf and Scarlet. Reading how Charleson treated Scarlet broke my heart. I really feel so bad for Wolf. When he kept asking for Scarlet I was truly tearing up. The talk he had during the wedding mission with Cress broke me.
In this book, we also met Jacin Clay and Princess Winter. I didn't really like Jacin, since he was grumpy all the time. I was, however, very intrigued by Winter, and really liked how she helped Scarlet by giving her candies that will ease her pain. I cannot form a real opinion of them yet, since they weren't a major part of the book.
∘₊✧──RETELLING────✧₊∘
I grew up with the story of Rapunzel (In my language, Raponsje), and loved how Marissa Meyer told retold it in this book. I saw so many similarities. From Thorne going blind from the fall to the ship being a "Rampion". I'm a huge fairytale girl, and I saw both the Grimm's version of Raponsje and Disney's Rapunzel. I can't help but love it. I will definitely be taking Winter with me during my road trip to Disneyland Paris!
∘₊✧───QUOTES───✧₊∘
"Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?"
He squinted and, after a thoughtful moment, shook his head. "No. I'm pretty sure it was Cinder.”

“I promise, I will not let you die without being kissed.”

“You said yourself that the people of Luna need a revolutionary.” She lifted her chin, holding his gaze. “So I’m going to Luna, and I’m going to start a revolution.”
