So this book was amazing!
As much as id like to say i knew every game, book or film reference. I didnt infact there was only one reference i got but it made me pretty happy...
The main character was awesome a regular joe who happens to stumble across something fabulous whilst not being able to really look for it... The whole random phrase in a lesson leading him to the first stop on his journey to find his own Holy Grail. Wade/Parzival it pretty cool, hes down to earth and yet very giving. Hes so resourceful, his original getaway location is amazingly detailed and seemed legit and The Plan... Totally Insane!! But incredibly genius ideas and pulled off so well.
I loved his friendship with Aech. It was cool to see them challenge each other and be good natured rivals, and then stick up for one another. It was nice to see that neother of them were stereotypical either... just coz Aech had a lot of credit he worked for it and used it wisely enough at least that we could see. The whole getting even by helping Perzival was cool it sounded snarky but ultimately their bond was real even outside of the MMORPG.
Perzival's relationship with Shoto... It did not get enough page time, for me there was far too much Art3mis and not enough Shoto. I think he could have had so much more character development had he been given more page time... I understand why he wasn't but it still kinda sucked for me.
The romance sub plot was totally uneccessary in my opinion. I didn't like Art3mis anyway so that probably didnt help much. I do love the fact that there was a girl portraying herself and a girl made so uncomfortable that she couldn't portray herself properly. I did love the fact that Aech's avatar facial characteristics were based off the real person, as was Art3mis's, it seemed a little weird that Shoto is the only one that is specifically mentioned to look like his avatar. But i guess it happens.
I really like the fact that even though they all vowed that they would never work alone they all ended up together to beat thw big bad of the book....
Speaking of the big bad... explosions and death threats and possible kidnapping s and such... pretty dark plots tbh and i will freely admit i was not expecting any of them especially the first explosion.
The only thing i think the book could have changed was the ending and by that i mean it would have been nice to see how they sorted everything out, and how the fab four were going to work together or go their seperate ways... theres so much potential there... im not sure if it was left like that for a reason?!?
But I would honestly reccommend this book to anyone i really enjoyed it, I was hooked from the van! It was amazing and i was almost on the edge of my seat... i couldn't wait to see what the next challenge would be and who would win :)
