Family Magic by Patti Larsen

5.0

To just be normal....oh and to be rid of the coven of witches she belongs to, as soon as possible. Not to much to ask right? Well not if one day you will be the coven leader! Sydlynn Hayle, typical teenager, daughter of the Hayle Coven's leader and a demon from another plane. Fighting for independence, to find herself, to fit in. Headstrong, temper flaring, no one seems to understand her. Syd just wants to be rid of something she didn't ask to be a part of in the first place.
Then things start happening that shouldn't be possible, and the only reason seems to scream traitor! Syd must learn to accept her growing powers in order to save her coven, and family. Add to that dealing with a bunch of holier than thou cheerleaders, the sudden attraction from the star football player, and a group of social misfits who only want to be here friend. High school is hard work! Finding real friends, for the first time in her life, in the least likely of places, the reader sees Syd grow, not only in her magical powers but in her personal life, through out the book.

This being the first book I have read by Patti Larsen, I was very impressed and within just a few chapters, Patti had a new fan. Not only was I so deeply into the story, but I felt like I knew Syd, her thoughts, fears, and insecurities. A great cast of characters, from little sister Meira (who I just adored!), to Gram who made the ultimate sacrifice for her coven, Alison the fallen cheerleader, and dark and mysterious Quaid, just to name a few
Needless to say I was more than excited to find out that not only was the next book in the series already available, but two more after that!
Family Magic is highly recommended, then you better be ready to jump right into book two, Witch Hunt!
