Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
5.0
Whenever I write reviews for classics, I don't really know what to say that hasn't been said already. That said, Their Eyes has definitely shot to the top of my list of favorite American classics. This book so perfectly captures this point in time for women like Janie, and also the feeling of finally claiming one's self as a woman and as person after years of being told you were neither. A beautiful, beautiful book. I only wish I had read it sooner.
