i've never quite understood what other readers meant by calling a book "readable" until now. holly black's voice is very easy to follow. at the same time she occasionally makes ..interesting choices with this book.. why is there a full chapter of disconnected characterization literally in bullet point format. could we just not find anywhere else to work that in? why are they going to the human world normal mall? why are we in jcpenny?? what is going on😭

the bullying in this book was also not it for me. i don't understand how a love interest could ever come back from that.
