Violet, the FMC, is so unlikeable that she’s likeable. She intrigued me from the book before this one and I’m glad she had her story told. The MMC is a man’s man in all the best ways. I liked watching their friendship evolve into a romantic connection. Seeing her growth and outlook transform is truly heartwarming, especially between her and God.
I admittedly know absolutely nothing about hollers. That was a learning curve for me. It’s hard to comprehend people living in such a way in all honesty. It brought a whole new world to me.
There is a lot of exciting action in this book with some twists and turns that I definitely didn’t see coming. Some are great and my jaw fell! But some feel forced and added on for constant distraction. Overdone. Too many guilty parties for one thing or another. I personally feel it would be that much better scaled back some and involving less people. The really horrible acts had a little more details and attention than I would like. It’s hard to convey what I mean without causing spoilers.
I’m appreciative of the fact that the book brings attention to the reality of human trafficking, drugs, greed, etc that exist in our world. There is so much sickness out there but God is always the remedy.
