Ever felt that the author of your fav book never saw the potential in that one supporting character who in their shrouded mystery, (or rather, underdeveloped characterization lol) was regardless way more interesting or loveable than the overrated MC? Ever read a book solely to know the fate of said minor/supporting character? Have you ever honestly hated a MC but loved the book's world/universe and so read the book(s) for that and nothing else? If so, this book is for all of us who love minor characters and think they should be the real heroes of our favorite stories, and in fact, are. This book was almost a love letter to supporting/minor characters and obscure, underhyped books who deserve everything popular books have. As a Pendragon series by D.J. MacHale fan, I know both these feelings all too well so this book really spoke to me for real 😁. The concept of being sent into your fav book is wild and fun and wouldn't we all like to try it? But finding the book is no longer following the plot and that the characters you were so endeared to turn out being some mean bitches to you is a reader's real nightmare (well, it would be mine!) and I think Madeleine Roux pulled this off. I enjoyed the characters and found the situations they were in really amusing and some even relatable and the whole dreamer/Wound/Lovecraftian cosmic horror thing eerie and interesting, mostly so because I don't read much cosmic horror and barely know anything about the Lovecraft mythos (and don't care much to know tbh) so I like reading others takes on it. For the most part, it's not the most exciting thing to read but I was still very invested in how everything would wrap up. But uh the ending kinda ruined it for me. I wasn't expecting the not very happy ending, bruh. And I don't know maybe it's trite but personally I would've wanted to see a scene of how Adelle and Connie saw the book on another reread after the their whole (mis)adventure. But well, I guess they'd already reached those conclusions.
