This story was so heart warming, and so touching, it literally made me tear up because it was brilliant. The book was about a kid who was suffering from a genetic condition similar to Treacher Collins syndrome because of which his face was disfigured. He was homeschooled by his mother but then they decided to send him to school for fifth grade and he met several kids who bullied him because of his medical condition. He also has a sister who is a teenager and going through her own problems with her bff, she felt lonely because the parents' whole attention was usually directed towards her brother and at times she just felt left out. This story was one that of friendship, family, love, and other elements.
This touched me not only because it highlighted the struggles of Auggie as a kid with medical conditions, and being victim of bullying but also because it highlighted the struggles of his sister. I feel that is not emphasised enough because not only the kid but their siblings suffer too as they are often overlooked. The parents' involvement and their struggle, specially that of a mother who forgoes her own career to take care of the kid, putting aside her own aspirations and dreams. All of this meant so much. The depiction of the characters were very realistic.
And also these books make you aware of the medical conditions as well. It was a wholesome story.
