I really enjoyed the overall premise and I loved our love interest Kaiden, I just wish we got more of their relationship since by the end I still wasn't fully invested or convinced of his relationship with Emery.
This book follows Emery who moves in with her father who left their family years ago. She decides to move in with him after losing her sister and then being diagnosed with that same illness. Her mother wasn't doing well with this, so Emery thought it would be best for her to live out her high school experience with her father. Upon moving in with her father, she also gets a stepbrother named Kaiden who is a broody, mad-at-the-world, sort of guy. This is where our story kicks off.
I didn't mind Emery, I just felt like I wanted more from the characters. The overall plot was enjoyable, but the characters didn't have me hooked throughout the story I wanted to build a connection with the and I didn't feel it. The ending, while impactful, didn't hit as hard since I didn't have that bond with the characters. I can't quite pinpoint what it was, I just know that I wasn't fully in it.
