Allergic: A Graphic Novel by Megan Wagner Lloyd

4.0

Maggie is excited to finally be receiving a pet dog for her birthday. She has always loved animals; and in her family she feels like the only one left out (her twin bothers have each other, and her parents are expecting another baby). But when Maggie has a severe allergic reaction while at the pet shelter, they learn that she is allergic to everything with fur and feathers. Maggie is devastated, but begins a year long journey to receive allergy shots, find the perfect pet, deal with family changes due to the baby, and start her first year at a new school.

A great graphic novel for middle grade readers (or older elementary grade readers) about new schools, family changes, and living with allergies. Family dynamics were wonderful (parents were supportive amidst conflict), allergies were explained in an appropriate way, and conflict with friends were resolved nicely.
