I had a lot of trouble getting invested in this book, and I'm not completely sure why. Part of the reason was that the first half moved pretty slowly, and I didn't feel a strong connection to the characters, but maybe I was also hoping...the plot would surprise me a little more?

I liked the main themes in the story, so that's a plus. And Wes did grow on me in the second half, so I think there's hope that I could start to care about more of the cast if I get to know them better.
Also I'm very curious about how the whole dragons/souls thing will be dealt with.
