The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
4.0
tw: fatphobia
This book was a whimsical, hopeful, warm hug in book form. Although this book had its flaws, I think it accomplished what it set out to do. The kids are the shining stars of this book and feel the most fleshed out. The adult characters are less fleshed out, and their reactions, particularly to our main character early in the story, don’t make a lot of sense. Linus as a main character has a solid arc, but I think the body negativity throughout was a little much and he could have had more substance in the beginning that would have made more sense for the hope the other characters had in him. But overall I enjoyed this and pictured it as a warmer Tim Burton movie as I was reading it.
