Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis

4.0

Fantastic. I like books about how artists made their way, and this is one of the best of those I've read. Listening to it on audio was a treat, being read by Viola Davis herself, and I think it was the best way to consume this. If I had a single take-away from this, it's that funding the arts saves lives, and society should do more of that.

The book is told basically through 19 essays, so some information is repeated. As a book of essays rather than a single cohesive narrative, I really enjoyed it. It also found me at the right time. It's a celebrity memoir so anything I have to say is automatically going to sound trite, but it's a great book for people, especially creatives, who feel like they don't have their shit together. There's time. There's time. Do the work. This book made me cry more than once.
