Winger by Andrew Smith

Wow, this book surprised the hell out of me. I started this book at 1pm today and I finished it by 11pm (taking a 4 hour break to eat dinner and spend time with family in between). That's how good this was. I couldn't put this book down! I read from page 152 through the end of the book in one siting! That's a record for me, 440 pages in less than a day, because this book was addictive. I just had to know how it was gonna end.
THAT ENDING. Oh my god I did not expect that at all and I was so shocked and stunned, I couldn't believe it. I didn't expect it from a book that was filled with so much humor. But omg. I don't know what to expect from the sequel after that ending.
I did have a few problems with Ryan Dean as a character because sometimes he managed to make me frustrated, but it also made the story a little more interesting. Joey is my favorite character, he's just so bubbly and funny and a perfect friend for Ryan Dean. I honestly didn't feel anything towards Annie (Ryan's sort of girlfriend) but they had cute moments at times. The thing I adored most about this book were the cute little drawings and sketches inside some of the chapters. They were so adorable and it's been a long time since I read a book that has pictures in it, but it was very cute and gave the story more charm.
I was honestly surprised at how much I loved this book, and it's now one of my favorite YA contemporaries. It's unlike anything else I've ever read, mostly because the humor was amazing. There were a few times I actually laughed out loud while reading this. It was just so cleverly written and I was smiling throughout almost the entire book (right up until that god damn ending). But it's rare for me to find a book that actually keeps me smiling and laughing out loud throughout the course of the book, so I really appreciate it.
