The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
5.0
"He was rewarded with a silver-and-red can of soda. He brandished it at the dolphin warriors as if spraying them with bug repellant.
"Behold!" Percy shouted. "The god's chosen beverage. Tremble before the horror of Diet Coke!'"
As the main seven demigods band together, Gaea and her minions are preparing for her awakening. This forces the seven demigods to search for answers while the Gods remain silent.
Even as I was happy to see Percy and Annabelle reunited, it was so short-lived. During this quest, Percy is trying to help Annabeth with her side quest of finding the Mark of Athena. Even as Annabeth fears the outcome of the side quest, she knows that her quest is essential to bringing together the Romans and the Greeks. This stress does get a bit of tension in the couple's relationship.
Percy, a clueless teenager, offers his emotional support knowing that the quest for the Mark of Athena is taking a toll on Annabeth. There is a bit of resentment growing towards the Gods in Percy as the book progress with the Gods remaining silent. Which begins after Bacchus forces Jason and Percy to fight the Titan Brothers, Ephialtes and Otis, to get his help. Which is a bit worrisome and was one of the reasons Luke betrayed the Greek Gods.
Leo is fantastic as always, so no issues there. However, the whole "love triangle" between Frank, Hazel, and Leo is unnecessary. I did like the twist with Leo and Hazel, but their shared vision wasn't discussed since they had to escape from crazed villains.
Nico, my poor Nico, has survived being in Tartarus without going insane by the darkness now has to lead them to the Doors of Death? I can't wait to read the next book, especially after that crazy ending.
