O Maidens in Your Savage Season 3 by Mari Okada
4.0
I have a LOT of thoughts about this volume, but I'm struggling to put them all together, so I'm going to do bullet points instead. Cool? Cool.
-As much as I can relate to Kazusa and am thrilled by her character continuity, I feel like all she did this volume was talk to Sudo, fuss about her emotions, and blush. A LOT. I mean, there was a SHIT TON of blushing on her part. She's still a good character and I think young people will definitely be able to relate to her, but she didn't really get a chance to shine this volume. Although I did like the scene where she and Izumi get to have a normal conversation, I feel like all the fussing paid off to a degree.
-Sonezaki is probably my favorite character and I love her slow character growth. I also like how Jujo is trying to approach her. I love me a "serious, smart student" becoming friends with the more "outgoing, friendly" type. I also like how Jujo is super chill around her and is just being herself, it shows how comfortable she is around Sonezaki. Also, can I just say, I am SO DAMN HAPPY with Sonezaki's decision at the end of the volume. You go, girl!
-Sudo is an interesting character and one that I feel like can be easily overlooked. She tries to be there for Kazusa, like Sugawara is, but she's true to herself, knows her limits, and is down to earth. I was thrilled to see her honest reaction to Sugimoto's messages. What a phenomenal asshole he is. I'm curious to see where her character is going, but I really like her and I think this volume let her quietly shine.
-Hongo is still awesome, but what she's doing with Milo-sensei definitely concerns me. I'm worried about both of their futures, but I'm also glad that Hongo is learning her boundaries. It's one thing for a character to have a single-minded goal and pursue it, it's another for a character to have a single-minded goal, WANT to pursue no matter what, but is stopped by boundaries they may not have known they had. She's a great character and I do like her, I just don't want anything bad to happen.
-Sugawara...uhhhhh...honestly, I'm kind of losing interest in this character. Her backstory was interesting (what the actual FUCK was up with her director, though?!) but I feel like her character is stuck being what it is. Yes, her talk with Izumi was nice and maybe she'll start moving on, but as of right now she's kind of bland. Maybe that's just me, who knows.
That concludes my scattered thoughts regarding this volume. It was a good volume, but some things brought it down a bit. Still loving this series though, can't wait for volume 4!
